For many people, opportunities for travel photography occur only when they or their family take a holiday. This section therefore addresses the problem of combining travel photography with a vacation by focusing on the challenges of eight popular types of trip. The examples chosen highlight particular photographic and human issues.
Serious travel photography does not, in most cases, mix well with holidays. The best photographs are often only available to photographers who seek out the best days and times, and take the trouble to be in a perfect position at the key moment. Holiday photographers, however, may be restricted by other arrangements or have to move on before the best shots are obtained.
