This style of montage is very similar to the "tiled" approach, however the individual elements of the image are intentionally deregisterd, or misaligned, to produce a pleasing and more interesting overall effect.

The example image shown here was produced by progressively moving a standard square selection around the original digital image, taking copies of slightly overlapping pre-planned areas. These copied selections were then pasted in to precise positions in a new image to create an improperly registered view.
